BigBasket's offline grocery push to build omnichannel reach in India resurfaces from January 2023 move
Tata-owned BigBasket added self-service and large-format stores, including a Hyderabad pilot, back in January 2023 to extend its customer base beyond online grocery and strengthen its position against Amazon, Reliance and Flipkart.
Tata-owned BigBasket is widening offline retail through self-service and large-format stores to build an omnichannel grocery presence, broaden India reach and counter competition. It raised $200 million from Tata Digital and is considering an IPO by 2025.
Why this matters
The move aligns with signals on BigBasket expanding its offline grocery footprint and later narrowing to 40 cities as FY26 losses widened 66% to ₹3,073 crore.
Omni-channel is accelerating, up 194900% QoQ.
