Godfrey Phillips India reported weaker Q1 earnings after a steep Q4 FY26 tax increase hit profitability. Net profit fell 44.3%, revenue declined 19% and EBITDA dropped 46.2%, while domestic cigarette volumes slipped only 2% despite tax-led price increases.

Why this matters

The Q1 decline reverses Godfrey Phillips India’s prior Q4 performance, when profit rose 86% to ₹376 crore and EBITDA margin nearly doubled to 28.7%. It follows the company’s nine-year contract manufacturing deal with Polisetty Somasundaram.
