Cipla prioritises Yurpeak as sales nearly double, delaying semaglutide launch
Cipla is taking a wait-and-watch approach to generic semaglutide in India, focusing instead on scaling tirzepatide brand Yurpeak. Yurpeak sales rose to Rs 28 crore in June from Rs 14.4 crore in March, aided by doctor acceptance and Cipla’s non-metro distribution reach.
Cipla will prioritize its tirzepatide brand Yurpeak over a generic semaglutide launch in India as Yurpeak gains GLP-1 market share. The company cites doctor acceptance and its non-metro distribution network, while generic semaglutide competition drives prices lower.
Why this matters
The Yurpeak push extends Cipla's consumer-health and India-sales focus after India sales rose 12%; it follows Q1FY27, when profit fell 39% despite record India sales.
Retail-brand signals are accelerating, up +348000% QoQ.
