BIS weighs mandatory silver hallmarking as voluntary tagging nearly doubles to 59 lakh articles
Bureau of Indian Standards is assessing market readiness to mandate silver hallmarking, citing the metal's split between organised and unorganised channels. Voluntary hallmarked articles jumped from 32 lakh in FY25 to 59 lakh in FY26 across 230 AHCs, with HUID already mandatory for hallmarked silver since September 2025.
